Sarara safari camp within the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy consists of only six luxury tents, each positioned to maximize the stunning views on the Mathews Range of mountains and the animal watering hole inviting many of the around 4000 Elephants who peacefully share their habitat with the camps guests. The tents are spacious and have high ceilings with plenty of space, electric lighting and 24 hour hot and cold running water.
Each tent has its own private terrace with table and chairs and morning coffee and tea are brought to you so that you can wake up gazing out over the mountains.
Each tent has its own ‘loo with a view’; an open hut just a few feet from your tent. The bathroom is reached by a covered walkway and offers amazing views of the bush and the watering hole. Lucky guests can watch the ellies from the shower.
Sarara has established itself as one of the ‘hot spots’ for quality leopard viewing in Africa and equally, for close-up sightings of the normally extremely shy lesser kudu antelope. The African wild dogs are frequently encountered in the Sarara valley too.
Elephant, buffalo, giraffe, gerenuk, impala and warthogs are now regularly seen on our game drives and bush walks and are very much on the increase in numbers.
Unusual sightings include striped hyena, aardwolf, civet cat, African wild cat, greater kudu, grevy zebra and cheetah.
One big advantage the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy has over most of the other major National Park is the ability to provide Night safaris, generally not permitted in National Parks. Approximately 80% of all guests staying for at least 3 nights in the camp see Leopards, the rarest and hardest to spot member of the big five.
Some of the other included activities are walking safaris, unlimited Game drives, fly camping and hiking the forests of the Mathews Mountains.
